Technology, Day 3: Communicating with Web 2.0, Cybersafety and Informational Literacy

• Word Clouds
  • Wordle allows you to create word clouds of any text.
  • Tagul not only creates word clouds, but allows you to link the words to other sites like visuwords.

• Letting students express themselves and ways to communicate creatively with parents
  • Animoto - using pictures, text, video, and music to create amazing presentations for parents
  • Glogster EDU - a way to create interactive online posters that can help students express themselves in ways that normal reports can't. They can also be used to communicate with parents and students or staff members.

• Prezi

  • Preziis an alternative to Keynote and PowerPoint that should be considered when presenting. We will create a quick Prezi to be ready for homework.

• Cyber-Safety is a hot topic in our flattened world. Organizations like iSafe and Stay Safe Online try to help educate parents, teachers, kids, and community members on safe online practices. Balance and education are necessary. Kids will use these tools and explore. It's essential to educate them on safety instead of banning the sites outright.
• Information Literacy is an incredibly important topic. Students who do not understand how to judge the validity of an Internet Source and aren't able to keyboard at a decent rate will not be able to function in any career.

• Final Project**: Build either an animoto, prezi, or glog and send the group the link.
